Propranolol.
Propranolol is a prescription beta blocker that can be taken for high blood pressure. It works by relaxing your blood vessels and slowing heart rate. The extended release tablets of propranolol are supposed to be taken whole without being crushed or chewed. Make sure you always use a special measuring device if you are going to take the liquid form of this medicine. Taking more of this drug is not going to make your treatment more efficient and can actually cause an overdose. The symptoms of an overdose are not known, as they may be different for different people. If you think you may have taken too much of propranolol – see emergency medical help and tell the doctor that will be treating you which medicine you took too much of. Both mild and more serious side effects are possible - and you will need to tell your health care provider if you get serious side effects that can affect the success of your treatment. The following ones are supposed to be reported: swelling of the feet or hands, slow, irregular heartbeat, unusual weight gain, sore throat, unusual bleeding, and chest pain. Tell your doctor if you think propranolol is not working properly for you to see if any changes need to be made to your treatment.
